Where Every Dog Has Its Day

What to do with my stay-at-home dog?

“I’ve just bought a puppy and every time I leave him at home he wrecks the house. Do I give up my job or the puppy?”

“I'm curious as to what everyone does with their dog while they're at work? Do you crate them/let them roam freely/take them to doggie daycare? How long do you typically leave your pet alone while at work? I have been wanting a dog, but am afraid I am not home enough (I work 8 hours some days, 10-12 hours other days). I don't want the dog to have separation anxiety or suffer from lack of bathroom visits etc.”

“…my puppy can hold it for 8-10 hours at night.  I work a full time job and I leave my puppy in the crate for only about 6-8 hours a day and every time I come home my puppy has peed and pooped in his crate.  What am I doing wrong?”

“Can I have a dog even though I work?”

Here are just some of the common questions that arise when people are thinking about getting a pet and working full time. It basically is like having a baby, and a full time job, and minimal support. For real.

It’s a tough one. And there is a lot of advice out there, but what is the right decision for you and your pet.

Now we all know the benefits of working full time… obviously. But what about having a pet?

Well actually there are a lot; from being healthier, getting more exercise and having better mental health. The social benefits and companionship are just some of the areas of your life that immediately improve with having a pet dog. Your kids are also less likely to develop allergies and more likely to have more self confidence.

But how? How do you manage a dog and a full time job? Check out our blog about 7 things dogs get up to when they are home alone (and what to do about it).

Now there is such a range of advice for different solutions, some involving getting full time babysitters to installing mechanical dog food dispensers. And trust me, I have even heard crazier suggestions for keeping full time stay-at-home dogs happy.

But is there an affordable, reliable, straight forward solution?

As a matter of fact there is. Dog day care not only provides a reliable, safe solution that keeps you at work but also keeps your dog healthy and sociable.
