Our Siding Replacement Process

Removing Old Boards

One of the first things we’ll do is pry off the old, rotting boards from your home. This is usually quite quick to do and helps us to prepare your home for the new boards being added.

Adding the New Boards

When we replace the boards, we will use a reveal set to match the reveal of the siding you have now. We will make sure that the boards overlap by one inch, and work from the bottom up. 10D galvanized nails are then driven into the overlap. If your home has insulated sheathing, we will predrill the nail holes to avoid damaging the insulation.

Painting and Priming

Painting wooden siding is the best way to make it last. We will prime the back and the edges of the siding. We never countersink or drive the nails flush, as the heads will then break the paper face, giving water the chance to soak in. This will deteriorate your siding over time. We will caulk nail heads that happen to break the face.

Sealing the Siding

We will leave a 1/8th of an inch gap at the corner and butt joints. We do this so we can seal it with acrylic caulk. Gutters are replaced to stop water from splashing on the siding, not to mention that we will take note of any sprinklers you have to ensure the water isn’t going damage your new siding.

Checking Shingles

If your siding meets the roof, it will rot over time. One way we combat this is to make sure that there is good flashing alongside the joints. We will leave a 1-inch gap, and then seal it accordingly.
