As we move full steam into 2023, we want to communicate a few things about the broader NLU event schedule, including what's staying the same and different.
What's The Same?
NLU Hosted Events - NLU will continue to host two (2) NIT qualifiers:
- The Donnybrook 3.0 - March 2-5, 2023, at Pinehurst.
- The 2023 NLU Summer Festival - August 21, 2023, at Erin Hills.
Two Event Championships - NLU will continue to host the two event championships:
- The Roost Club Championship at Sweeten’s Cove, October 6-8, 2023
- The Nest Invitational Tournament (to be announced soon).
Roost Meetups - Roosts will continue organizing local meetups and their Roost Regional/Club Championship qualifiers.
Qualifying for the NIT - Simply attend a qualifier event for a shot at claiming the NIT spot up for grabs. These events are open to all; however, you must be a Nest member to qualify and attend the NIT.
Qualifying for the Roost Club Championship - Each of our 28 Roosts is divided into nine regions. Each Roost will send a four-person team to a Regional Qualifier, and the winning team from that Regional qualifier advances to the Roost Club Championship. How the four-person squad from each Roost is determined is up to each individual captain and Roost, but most have some sort of year-long qualifying series. Likewise, regional dates and locations are up to the captains of each Roost in the region to determine, but they should be completed by the end of July/early August.
What's Different?
The NIT qualifier schedule - This year, we have merged NIT qualifiers with Roost events. Each Roost now has an NIT spot to tie to an event in their area. The Captain from each Roost has/will team up with an existing Refuge event organizer or plan an event themselves that is open to all. These events (Roost Majors) are what you will see in the wider NLU Event Schedule, and are considered the NIT qualifiers for the 2023 season.
- You do not have to be a Nest member, nor do you have to be a Roost member to attend.
Why we are doing this:
- This gives existing events a built-in attendee list.
- Allows more Refuge members the chance to qualify for the NIT.
- It helps us spread NIT qualifier events across the globe.
If you have questions about NIT qualifier events, please contact @Privatecollection and @GremlinGolfer directly. We will not be using a formal NIT qualifier application this year.
New Roost In 2023! - The Incline Club (Western PA), captained by @Willig92, has joined the list of available Roosts to join in 2023. They’re looking forward to dipping their toes into some competition and competing in the Midwest Region this year. View Roost Website
If you are interested in creating a Roost, we will open up applications to do so this fall for the 2024 season. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Paddy, aka @GremlinGolfer with any questions.
