THE CONCOURS CLUB SPOTLIGHT

MEET FOUNDING MEMBER ANN BURRIS: MOTORSPORTS ENTHUSIAST, DRIVER, & COLLECTOR

Developing the skills and confidence to pilot a racecar takes dedication, focus and courage. For this edition of The Circuit, we're pleased to introduce you to Founding Member and car collector, Ann Burris. Ann's passion for automobiles began as a hobby, which has progressed rapidly, turning her into an avid motorsports enthusiast. Ann is currently the fastest female M2CS driver at The Concours Club. Complemented by her impressive collection of vintage and modern exotics, Ann's passion and success for driving  is just the beginning.

“I got into motorsports rather accidentally. When my son, Luke, was in college, I always tried to find ‘cool’ mom things to do with him, and one of these was an exotic driving experience, and another was flying a plane. The instructor told me he had never seen anyone have so much fun on the track and that I should continue to drive.

Although I appreciated cars, it paled in comparison to my late husband, who left me with 13 automobiles – one of which was a manual transmission Audi R8, that car and I spent time on multiple tracks throughout Florida."

"When the opportunity to become a founding Member at The Concours Club presented itself, I was immediately intrigued because this seemed like such a refined way to do something I loved. And when the chance to purchase my own BMW M2CSR came up, again it was a no-brainer for me, as it was a state-of-the-art, new, safe car complete with that essential option – AIR CONDITIONING!"

"Although I retired many years ago from full-time work, I find myself very busy with life, wishing that I had more time to spend at the track. My love of travel frequently impacts my availability to drive. My instructor, Robert La Rocca, stresses that consistency is the key to continual improvement. His coaching is invaluable to shaving seconds off my time. Turn 6/7 is appropriately named ‘Frustration’, as it proves to be my biggest challenge. With his guidance, I am confident that I will overcome my frustration and promise to schedule more track time into my calendar."

"I am very excited about the newest addition to my car family – a 2022 McLaren 720S Spider. I know she is a ‘she’, but I have yet to name her and can’t wait until all of her protective coating is installed. Then she and I will bond in a big way.

For me, this sport is all about fun. I have no desire to race and just enjoy beating my own time. As with so many things in life, I believe that you can only say ‘no’ to something once you’ve tried it and found it’s really not for you. As women, we often shy away from participating in things that are considered traditionally ‘male’ activities. I say try it, you might like, or love it!"

IT'S ALL IN THE DATA

The results are in! Below are some of The Club's most notable circuit records so far this year.

JAY SCHREIBMAN AND OZZ NEGRI COMPETE IN GT OPEN 2021

The 31st edition of the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic added a new element to its glittering event, with an exclusive track day at The Concours Club – Miami’s brand-new country Club automotive resort. Along with a day of on-track excitement with a sensational lineup of Ferraris, Cavallino guests enjoyed all of the Club’s luxury amenities and indulged in the exquisite Verge Cusinie.

Hanging in Verge, The Concours Club’s exclusive restaurant is a new sculpture by Dwayne MacEwen titled 11 Turns. It was designed to bring the sound of a perfect lap to life – specifically, a lap around the Club’s circuit by four-time Indy 500 Champion Helio Castroneves. The 400-pound sculpture is 22 feet long and, as its name suggests, features 11 turns – one for each twist in the circuit.

The Concours Club circuit is just over two miles, with a 2,100-foot straight, plus multiple configurations and elevations. There is a member’s lounge, and Verge, a restaurant presided over by celebrated chef Brad Kilgore, as well as a secured location for members to store their cars. If you don’t have a car handy the club has a fleet of BMW M2 CSR and M235is available at a moment’s notice.

Next door to Sky Harbour’s facility in Miami is the Concours Club, a members-only racing retreat for owners of luxury vehicles that opened in June. But nearly 75 percent of Concours Club members use private planes to fly in to Miami, so Ronald Vogel, a founding member, is developing 300,000 sq feet of hangar space for his guests on 25 acres of adjacent land.
